Questions and Answers

If you've got a question that isn't answered below, please send us an email or message us by text, Facebook or WhatsApp, and we'll get back to you as soon as we can.

  • How can I supply my own artwork?

You can upload print-ready artwork when placing an order or enquiry. The most common format is a pdf file - other formats commonly accepted are png, jpg, docx, pub, eps and svg.

Please see the Artwork Requirements section on the item you are ordering for information on dimensions, bleed and safe area.

We will get back to you if there are any problems with your file(s), or any other issues affecting print quality.

  • Can you help me to finalise my design?

We can take your design at whatever stage you have reached, tidy up the layout, and format correctly for print. There may be a charge for this depending on the work involved - please attach your design and any comments when placing your order or enquiry.

  • Do you offer a design service?

Yes, we are happy to design and print your product(s), and can give advice on how best to present your message. Please give as much detail as possible of what you need, along with any logos or images, and we will respond with our comments and suggestions and provide a quotation. Feel free to phone, message or email to discuss your requirements.

  • Can I collect my order when complete?

If you are close to our workshop in Old Colwyn, you are welcome to arrange a time to collect.

Please note that some orders will be completed at different locations and will not be available for collection.

All prices shown include delivery. We use Royal Mail to send some of the smaller orders, and in those cases we would deduct the postage charges if you arrange to collect. Please contact us for details.

  • Do you charge for delivery?

Delivery is included in all of the prices shown on our website.

For some small quantity orders where we despatch by Royal Mail, the cost may be less when combining more than one item in the same package. This will be shown in the price quoted on your final confirmation.

  • Is VAT payable?

No. Handy-Office is currently not VAT registered, so the prices quoted are those payable, with no VAT element.

  • What is meant by bleed?

Designs for many printed items may include a background image or graphics which extend to the edge of the page.

Most printing equipment is unable to print right to the edge, and the usual way to achieve this is to extend these elemnts beyond the edge of the finished page - this additional area. is known as bleed.

We normally request 3mm bleed all round. For example, to print an A4 design (210 x 297mm), the total artwork area would be 216 x 303mm. For details of the bleed for a specific item, please see the Artwork Requirements section.

We then print on larger media, and trim off the bleed after printing. This should ensure that there are no unwanted narrow white borders, and that none of the intended design is accidentally cropped.

  • What is meant by a safe area?

Text and important graphic elements such as logos placed very close to the edge of a design may look great on a computer screen, but in printed form this may not appear as good. There is also a risk that some may be cropped when the edge is timmed after printing (see 'What is meant by bleed?').

To avoid this problem, a 'safe area' is recommended, to keep text and key graphics away from the edge of the page. A general rule of thumb would be a minimum safe area of 5mm.

For some very small items such as business cards and labels, a safe area of 3mm may work.

Some larger items have different safe areas - at least 30mm for banners due to the placement of eyelets for hanging, 50mm from the top and bottom of pullup banners to avoid being hidden by the mechanism, and 25mm from the left and right edges.
